Be advised that the prices on the website are in no way the best you can get. Pretty much every online site and retailer has account executives that try to get your future business by giving good deals. AVS is the same.
Also, they can get stuff that is not listed on the site. I got some gear last year that was not listed at all.

Okay, so the HPX 170 and HVX200A have improved CCDS that deliver less noise than the HVX 200 (and better sensitivity).
I'm wondering how this compares to the HPX 500. It being a 2/3'' chip i realize it should have better low light sensitivity, but wondering is it overall that much better, seeing that the CCD's for the HPX 170 were developed AFTER the 500 came on the market. I'm wondering if the 500 and 170 are more evenly matched than it may appear on the surface. Barry Green? Any thoughts on this? How does it compare?

The 500 will still be more sensitive and it's going to have better contrast because it's a bigger chip. But I don't have any side-by-side footage or comparisons of the two.

Has anyone received their HPX-170 yet? Spec Comm called me yesterday and told me that my camera will ship in about the next 2 weeks.

I don't think any have gone out yet.
I confirmed my order with them earlier this week as well - I'm assuming we'll get shipping notifications when they're actually on their way.

Have you ever considered renting a camera? I can't imagine staking my income on the arrival of a camera, why would you do that?

In that case, I have just the right dealer for you, he also wont get into any details and will guarantee you a 170. Hes on the corner of Canal St. & Mott St. in Chinatown, red stair case next to discount fragrances! Might also have a Scarlet left!

just when i thought i knew it all. just read the hpx170 has a 2x ,5x,10, digital zoom? is this right? ya digital zoom sucks but is that true?
