HPX shotgun mic mount problems, fur in corner of frame

I just bought an AT897 shotgun mic for my HPX170 and mounted it using the standard Panasonic mount. With just the foam on the mic it stays out of the frame at all times, but with the Miccover fur it is in the frame at full wide. I live in Newfoundland, its really windy here so I need the fur.

Any suggestions? There is a threaded hole on top of the handle, is there any kind of adaptor for connecting mics to this??

First, it is not a good idea to mount a mic on a camera. The mic won't be close enough to your victim, the mic will pickup handling noise from the cam, and likely operator noise as well. This is not a recipe for success.

With that out of the way, if you must camera mount your mic, you will probably want to put it on the shoe with a quality shock mount to improve the isolation. The factory Panny mount is a pretty poor excuse. You might want to look at models from Rycote, K-Tek, and Audio Technica. When mounted on the shoe, your mic will be up a bit higher so the framing issue should be solved. If it is a really big fuzzy or blimp with dead cat, you can get extensions to raise the mic up higher yet.

If you have a light on the shoe, you could use the threaded hole on the HPX for this. The threads are 1/4-20. BH Photo will have lots of options, but you will probably end up adapting from the threads to a shoe mount regardless.
