HP DVD writer 200i problem

Has anyone had any trouble with this particular writer? Is HP known for making bad writers? It came with my HP mediacent PC about 2 years ago. I have recently discovered some patches for it and have had trouble downloading them from the HP support site. I'm thinking this will solve my problems.

Thanks,
Tony

Re: HP DVD writer 200i problem

well, I remember when I needed a burner I went on ebay to find a burner that I can used. About 90% of the burners were HP. Now, I don't know if thats a good thing or a bad. I did however notice many were refurbished. I also rememberd a guy at Fry's electronics who worked at the computer department telling not to get an HP burner. I asked him why? He laughed then said, fine if you want to then go for it. ? Ever since then I never wanted to get an HP. But I buy a Pioneer DVD burner which is the most compatible with all DVD+- media.

Re: HP DVD writer 200i problem

I have heard good things about Pioneer... Sony too. I have no clue what it could be really, I talked to an HP tech for about an hour online the other night he sent me a link to a driver and hopefully that might have done something. He also informed me that HP writers aren't very compatible with Memorex, Maxwell, or TDK media... which is nice to know, thanks a lot HP. So yea, I'm a bit perturbed at the moment but, whatever. After downloading that driver however, I was able to burn 2 out of I belieb 8 DVD's. I should not that I am using Memorex media and I recently pulled a Trojan Dropper off my comp. So we'll see how things go from here.

Thanks for the advice Blue Spider.
