how would you rate yourself?

Looking for a woman
Are you frequently blown away by footage posted on here or are you often bored by other users' work? From an artistic and a technical perspective, are you ahead of the curve or do you often times seem lost?

LOL... is this serious? This could cause some flaming... I think I'll abstain from commenting. Plus, things are SO subjective, I'll take a quote from my friend Kevin...

"Good is highly subjective, bad is obvious."

Okay...

I agree with Brandon

EDIT

I actually answered, but I decided that I do in fact agree with what was said.

haha. that's a great quote.

from what i've seen, many of the clips look much better than anything i'm capable of. i really don't know much about lighting, editing, etc. so i'm often amazed by the quality shots people can create.

on an artistic level though, it seems like a lot of the clips aren't as interesting. do you guys feel the same way?

where are your strengths/weaknesses?

I don't know, no matter how good you get, there is always someone better, something to aspire to. I've found inspiration in so many of the people who have posted here I have lost count. Although I will say, it was Disjecta's footage 3 years ago, that convinced me to get the DVX.

Doesn't really matter to me if I think it's good or bad.
I enjoy the fact that I'm seeing someones vision. Maybe I've looked at the same thing a million times and have never seen it they way they did. So it doesn't really matter what I think of the clip, I come away with something every time.
It all adds to my knowledge base and next time I approach a subject, it's filed away in my grey matter that maybe there's another way to look at it. :)

The one who's inspired me the most is Jack Daniel Stanley... seeing his zombiefest entry Shed made me know I could make great things happen with my lil' old DVX :)

There have been MANY others who've inspired as well, but he comes to mind immediatley.

We wouldn't want anybodie's "feelings" to be hurt.

Most of the stuff I see sucks. Some of it blows me away.

Most of the stuff I do by myself sucks. Some of it looks okay.

What's that supposed to mean?

There's a LOT of talent here on this board... and a lot is subjective, as my sig says!

Take this for instance...a film titled CPU won Sci-Fest 2006. People thought the film looked fantastic! But, I didn't care for the look that much, personally... there you go, it's subjective... something a ton of people thought looked amazing, yet I didn't think so... same goes for everyone else here...

Regardless of the actual standard of work shown - there's a lot of subjectivity, yes - I can say that the standard of critique is really shamefully low. People who show work either get no replies, or a unanimous string of "That was amazing!", most of the time. I've seen almost nothing on this site, including my own work, that deserves that sort of acclaim. Too many people are afraid to offer up valid criticisms, it seems.

Not sure I agree... if you get involved in one of the DVX-user fests, or post in the USER FILMS section shorts or features completed, you'll get a lot of responses.
