How would you light?

I have a house scene where a guy is walking up the stairs with a flashlight (the house is suppose to be dark). The camera is at the top of the stairs. How would you light this? Do I light it with bright lights then change in post? Thanks for any suggestions
 
Most people will say it depends on the mood, script, and demands of the scene...

Is it going to be pitch black with only the flashlight as a source that will spill light onto his face?

Do you want blue moonlight to influence his surroundings? Are there doorways to other rooms where moonlight would spill in?

There are only an infinite number of ways to do it :) Happen to have a picture from the camera's placement?
