How Would You Handle This

Here's the scenario ...

You are teaching a film class. Your 30 students have been tasked with creating a 1 minute film. What would be the best way to edit and pull all of these films together in Vegas if you wanted the end result to be a single film comprising of all the short films each introduced by a title screen. So it would be: title of film #1, film #1, title of film #2, film #2, and so on until the end.

For example, would you have the students edit each film separately in Vegas and render those films (to what?). Once rendered, do you pull them back into Vegas and add the title frames? Then do you use SoundForge to give some consistancy to the sound and sound level of all the films?

Editing them all in one project doesn't seem like a good idea. With only 9 films in the project we are up to 65 tracks.

Anybody have any suggestions how to proceed.

Specify a basic format (DV, AVI) and let the students do their own film and render to that.

Top video track holds the titles for the films. Timed to 5 seconds or so before each film starts.

One student film per track.

All matching audio on a single track normalized to -6db or so.

Should be simple and easy.

I agree. Vegas doesn't re-render video that hasn't been modified, so there won't be any render artifacts. Audio should be treated though (I'd use Waves L3 Ultramaximizer set to .01 peak and -6db compression.)

You could easily use nested projects here. Best thing to do is have everyone work in the same project settings.
