how would i do this

i want to shoot a music video in a club where the artist is sitting at a bar singing the song and everything around them is moving really fast

im shooting on a 7d so i can shoot 1080/24 or 1080/30 and 720/60

im thinking im going to have to tripod my shot, do 2 shots, one with the artist and one without and speed the without up and use masks... that it? which framerate would be best for that shot?

I guess you could do it that way. The normal way, which is much easier, is to playback the audio at a lower speed and have him move slow, syncing to the slowed song. Then speed up in post.

Since this is an After Effects Forum:

My approach is that you could (1) shoot the club any way you want, paying close attention to the lighting in the area you want the performer to appear in the final video. Rotating on the tripod at a constant speed you can speed up in post.

(Although there are lots of ways to do this step: my choice would be to bring the footage into Final Cut Pro and get the footage set at the spped that you want, then export file so you can use it in After effects.)

Then (2) shoot your performer in front of a Greenscreen (lit properly/evenly > google for lots of techniques on doing that)
Once the green screen is light you'll want to match the light landing on your performer, too look like the lighting in the club. You can still do more of the light matching in After Effects, but starting with a good natural match will get you a head start.

Next composite 1+2 together in After effects using Keylight Pluggin.

This is just a rough overview, but is the way i would handle it.
* Lots of information on KEYLIGHT and each of these steps is available on the internet if you need more details.

** Do some testing BEFORE hand, so that when you shoot the actual video you will be ready for the unexpected.

Have fun!! :-)
