how would i achieve this effect ...

i want to have my subject standing in this bathroom looking at this mirror, in the song this artist will be talking to themselves or there conscience, so id like the final product to have the subject talking to the mirror and his reflection not moving as if listening, then the reflection talking back to the subject, whos now not moving, while he listens to his conscience

im thinking since im not moving the tripod at all and keeping the camera going it should be somethin like masking out the mirror ... not sure tho, i havent used after effects pro yet, or done a mask with video so help me out ...

i have an hvx200 (got it monday!!! WEEE), tripod, well lit bathroom with big mirror, vegas 6, premiere pro 2.0, after effects 2 or cs2 (the one right before this most recent one i think)

A combination of masks and edits will do the trick. Use the little pen tool in AE and duplicate your layer then mask away. Easy peasy.

If possible, you could take the mirror out and put some green paper on it. Then mirror back and just key it out.

Anyway, I would shoot the scene with the singing, then with the listening, and then layer them on top of each other, and use a mask.

It shouldn't be too difficult - masks would be a quick way - using green paper would work well but only if you light well.

Masks would work well as long as you don't have your foreground subject cross in front of the mirror - if he does (and he moves a lot) you're looking at some "fun with rotoscoping!" I would definately test the green screen approach with the lighting you intend to use.

you could try shooting a clean plate with no actors, lock off your tripod. then shoot the next layer with the actor singing, then shoot your next layer with the actor talking back through the mirror. then mask away... you will have atleast 3 layers of video to work with. the more your actor moves, the more difficult it will be... lots o' position key frames.
