How/where to get music for a video?

When making shorts/videos, what is the typical way of acquiring music to use? Do you always have to pay for a license? Do you find websites that have free music? I use freesound.org for audio clips, but there is little in the way of music there.
 
As mentioned, there are a number of production music libraries out there.

There are also plenty of loop libraries for rolling your own in an easy fashion.

But many of us score our own using an app like Pro Tools or Digital Performer for example. A midi keyboard controller, and a few virtual instrument plugins, and you can do custom music to fit any video.
 
I think you should read up on how Creative Commons licensing works. Licenses vary. I found excellent tracks at the Free Music Archive.

Produce music specifically film/TV work. It is not expensive ($46 for a full album eg https://www.akmmusic.co.uk/it's-a-mad,-mad-world they have about 250 albums covering "everything" or you can buy individual tracks.

BTW They are designed to be sliced so you can extend or shorten them within limits of course depending on the track.
All royalty free so buy once use lots of times and cleared for TV/film/online use so no surprises.

Also when the YouTube Bot hit me for copyright (It thought it sounded like something else) one email the AKM Music and they took care of YouTube.
I have not had a problem since (and no copyright strike) .
