How to warp an image?

I have a shot of some wood grain and was wondering if anybody knew how to add that "shrooming" effect where things sort of warp and flow; sort of liquid-like. thanks!

I'd start here:

And modify modify modify to taste. (the REAL way to use these tutorials) Though... as a member of the US Military -- I must add the disclaimer that I have NO IDEA what you are talking about when you say 'shrooming'.

Displacement map driven by some video or slow swirling shapes or particles.

Even Mesh Warp would work, but would be time consuming.

Red Giant's Warp is a nice plug-in that does the job. It's a little difficult at first to get the hang of... but messing with it will give you some great results.
