How to use Samsung S7 or iPhone as field monitor for A7Rii?

As above - is there any app that I can use to make my phone function like a SmallHD field monitor for filming purposes? Would be great if I can have 1 less equipment to worry about.

You're better off getting a budget field monitor. You might be able to get a wifi adapter for your camera and use an app to receive wireless video to your phone, but there will be significant lag and it won't offer any of the features that are built into field monitors. On Android devices that support USB OTG, you can use a OTG cable and an android app to see video on your phone, but it will also have significant lag.

^^What do you mean by "filming purposes"? Framing, exposure, white balance?? None of those functions will work well on a phone. As for having one less piece of equipment to "worry" about, I suggest to you to stay away from SMALLHD. This is from very recent experience...

I use my Galaxy S5 (active) as a monitor occasionally - mostly when I'm filming myself since the screen won't flip out. Note: I'm using the A7sii but I'm guessing the functions are nearly identical. I just turn on the WiFi, connect my phone to it, and then in the Sony Play Memories app (or whatever it's called) you can start, stop, and do some other minor functions from the phone itself. I have a SmallRig clamp / articulating arm and an inexpensive cell phone holder (to mount to a tripod or whatever), and I just attach it wherever I need. As Imamacuser mentioned you're better off with an actual field monitor, but in a pinch this works well in my opinion.

I use a Canon C100/II which also has WiFi conectivity. It doesn't mean that using a phone is now a viable alternative to a proper video monitor, one-man operation or not.

The native Playmemories app is terrible in terms of latency. Is there any alternative app? I'm using it for framing and exposure checks, and reckon the OLED screen is probably as good or better than the SmallHD ones.
