How to use Ripple?

I'm making video slideshows with some interspersed MTS video clips and the Ken Burns effect on some slide clips. I've got default clip length & transitions working OK, but I need help on how to lengthen a particular clip. What I want to do is have all the clips to the right of the one I lengthen pushed to the right on the timeline. I know how to "select to end" and I've tried every combination of Ctl & Alt with dragging the right edge of the clip to be lengthened, but nothing seems to push the clips I want farther right.

What I've been doing is (1) selecting all clips to the right of the one to be lengthened, (2) move them right, (3) lengthen the desired clip, (4) move clips selectd in (1) back to the left. Needless to say this is not the best way to do this, but I'm stumped on how to do it properly.

Thanks in advance for getting me on the right track (pun intended.)

Have you enabled ripple edits? Use CTRL+L (by itself, not while dragging the end of the clip) or the button on the toolbar to enable.

Yes, enabling ripple was one of the first things I did. I thought this would result in the proper things happening, but it didn't.

PS: I'm using Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Ver. 9.b, and not Vegas Pro.
