how to use iTunes purchased music in FCP

I know, I know. It's wrong on commercial projects. But I don't believe there's anything wrong with it in home use, which is what I am currently working on and found this solution. I wanted to drop a lullaby song over some footage of my little boy sleeping, and my wife had purchased one the other day that I wanted to use. But no enchilada, right?? wrong.

Created a new aiff setting in Compressor and dropped my m4p file in there, presto chango, now I can use it. Maybe I'll post the clip link when I'm done.

HTH,
Chico

Hmmm Excellent idea!!!! :)

There's also a program floating around by the guy who cracked dvd ripping to unlock protected itunes files...

Re: how to use iTunes purchased music in FCP

however... when i tried it, I get "cannot connect to background process" errors...

Dude -- Brilliant! Now, what do I do with that spindle of 100 cds I bought just for this purpose!!!!!

Though I'm hearing some serious compression noises I didn't used to hear in CD rips. Maybe I'll try a side-by-side.

So you cannot convert your purchased itunes music to an AIFF through quicktime? That is how I always do it with my non-purchased music that is in itunes, but I don't think I have ever tried with an actual itunes purchased song.

I need to learn how to use Compressor!

No, QT won't work anymore. Nor will just running it through iTunes. Just do a control click on the song file and locate file, then open compressor and drag it into the window. You'll see a pulldown and select AIFF. Let 'er rip.

Hey Mench,

Were your settings set for full quality? I didn't get any unwanted noises on mine. Interesting if it continues for you.

BTW,
I noticed on your homepage that you were out Travis AFB way??  I live right there.  My friends and I use the gym for racquetball all the time :-).

Also, is that you conducting in the AF?  I have a friend that plays sax who was stationed at TAFB (now in Ohio).  Although I believe he's now in their jazz type band?  I can't remember his unit name.  His name was JP Banks.

Adios for now,
Chico

Hey Chico!!

Yeah, that's my day gig!! LOL! You'll need to come by the band building and ask for me next time you're on base. I just got here.

I'll check my settings next time I try this. I just used a stock preset... not even 48k. We'll see.

Really, swing by - not too far from the gym.

Open Peak Audio, hit record, then play the song in iTunes, make sure the computer is recording back to it self. Crop the song and save.
