how to use inserts/cutaways

I am wondering how to do something that is very easy in Casablanca, so I figure it can't be too hard in a superior NLE like PPro 2.0. The problem is, I am not sure what it is called. I want to cut from one shot to another, while the audio continues from shot A, but shot B is on the screen. When you cut back to shot A, time has elapsed for however long shot B is, so the audio continues to line up. I have only done this manually in Premeire before, and it is too much work to be practical on a deadline. In Casablanca, this function is called Insert, although that seems to be something else in Adobe.

This is really a fundemental technique in editing, so I hope someone can help me out! Thanks.

Just drag and drop your cut away shot on a video track above your A shot. So you'll have your A shot, in video layer 1, with your audio in audio layer 1. Your cut away will be in video layer 2.

Well that sounds simple. I think I have tried that before, but I must have bulloxed it up somehow. Thanks for the help!

And if you do not want any B audio (usually you don't), take only the video part to the upper video layer, otherwise B audio would appear on the audio track below audio A...
