how to use external mic

Hi,

i've just received my brand neww hvx. I tried to connect my senheiser external mic in the channel 2 xlr. I was doing a test in SD, but no sound was recorded. Can somebody tell me quickly what button's need to be pressed ? The manual is not that clear i think. Especially since it is the first time i've used xlr's.
stupid question I know, but i need it to work within a couple of hours.

Check to see if you have the camera set on line level.... Also if the mic is phantom powered, check and see if you have the phantom power switch is off.....

Both channels are set to the onboard mic by default.

That XLR input is actually not "Channel 2". Its called "Input 2" & won't be designated as Channel 2 until you flip the switch under the LCD screen. Change Input 2 settings to either Channel 1 or Channel 2.
 
Strange... i plugged in a different mic and it worked instantly. Really weird. Sorry to bother you guys with such stupid questions.
