How to use DOF handheld

Hey guys,
Looking at buying a Letus for a 30 minute short I am doing. I am just curious if it is possible to do handheld with the whole setup? By the time the weight of the rails, the camera, and the adapter are compounded I guess I am just wondering if it is still useable as a "handheld" unit? I will be mostly tripod but there will be some scenes that we will have to do handheld for space.
thanks

as long as you balance the position of the camera on the rails so the center of gravity is over your shoulder... you should be good. But, not all shoulder mounts/rails systems allow this. Also, you will probably have to add weight to the rear.

I don't know about the experiences of other people here, but personally I find 35mm lens most suited for handheld docu-style work in a 35mm adaptor setup. I use the HPX171 with Cinemek G35, Nikon lenses, Zacuto rails, and I pull focus by hand. I think that the 35mm lens finds a good balance between depth of field and "shakiness", but of course many a times it depends on the situation. In fact, I would go as far to say that it is a really a sweet lens for handheld work! I cannot handle 50mm well enough as my image gets too shaky, while for 28mm lens, it is a little too wide and DOF too deep at times.

my two cents.
