How to Train Your Dragon.

Saw this today with my family.

This was a really great movie! One of the best non-Pixar films I've seen in a long time. The animation was great, pretty interesting characters, great voice acting, the works.
Even the use of 3D was pretty tastefully done.

The main characters, Hiccup and Toothless, were quite enjoyable. I especially loved the ending. Toothless was just plain awesome.

Maybe I just wasn't expecting much, which is true. :)
But I was pretty blown away.

I'm actually planning on catching this sometime this week for a F.E.D. family review. (Not that I have a family, of course, but you know, for people with families.)

I've heard some great things about it, and not just from you MAH.

My daughter wants me to take her, but without fail, about 20 minutes in to what ever she is watching, she either goes to sleep or wants to go home because she's bored. it's 50/50 right now, but I want to see it.

Thanks for that small review and kick in the but. I knew this movie was coming out and both my 9 year old and I wanted to see it. It looked very fun from the previews. Will probably see it tonight now.

Hey, this is a fantastic film. As I watched, I kept thinking the characters felt somewhat familiar. I figured it out after a while - turns out it is Lilo and Stitch creator Chris Sanders' work.

Chris is definitely a man to watch if you love studio animation - like Brad Bird was when he was doing little projects like Family Dog.

We saw this in IMAX 3D, but I'd say you can see it in conventional 3D and be perfectly satisfied. I'll be going again and this marks the first time Dreamworks Animation has brought me back to the theater more than once for the same picture.

Gorgeous!

Loved "Toothless"!

For some reason, he reminded me of my beagle... had a lot of the characteristics of a dog... probably completely intentional.

Or an alien experiment?

Went - actually was drug - to this the other day and was totally blown away. Tired old story line rendered to perfection at every level. The dialogue and one liners were hilarious. Beg, borrow or steal some child and go immediately.

The 3D was amazing. Avatar was good, but this has me seriously rethinking the whole direction of the industry. Consumer demand for this type of experience is going to be incredible. First film in a long time I didn't begrudge either the time, the price or the 3D surcharge.

I already know how to drain my dragon...oh, i read the title wrong...

That was how to train your snake. Most reptiles respond to the same positive reinforcement.

Jeez... well I guess I gotta' go see this flick. With that title they created a hurdle for themselves... but it's definitely hanging in there on review percentage.

BTW... I'm not taking any kids with me... just me and my buddy wiser. :cheesy:

My daughter loved it so much she wants to go check it out again tomorrow.
This is so much better than her fascination with Alvin and the Chipmunks.

I saw this as I was doing QC for it, just the visuals and not the audio.
Even without the sound, I was very involved in what was going on, and some scenes - again no audio - had me in stitches - a testament to its strength.
On the other hand, if you look at the movie really closely you can see the renders are not as clean or as well done as PIxar movies. Pixar computer generated animation is still the best in many ways, though I'm not talking about story or script (which was excellent in Dragon).

A very fun movie...but I had one major problem with it. I found Jay Baruchel's vocal performance highly annoying. Just a personal thing I guess, but it took a lot of the the enjoyment out of the film for me. Also a bit of oddness with the adults talking with Scottish accents and the kids with American ones.

Saw it a second time with my daughter.

Having to sit through films like Alvin and the Chipmunks and Planet 51, HTTYD is a pleasant surprise. I think we enjoyed it even more the second time.

OK, just saw this for the FIFTH time . . and yes, paid the 3D surcharge all 5 times. Don't even think about not. I think this places it 4th in my all time list of repeats. All ready know I'm going again if I can find it in IMAX.

If you have kids, you MUST see this movie. And yes, pop for the glasses.

Yes, Pixar is better at the technical, but Dreamworks deserves a standing ovation on this one.

Interesting its returned to the top of the box office . . .
