How to time lapse lightening

I shot about 10 minutes of an amazing lightening storm and i want to speed it up to about 2000%. But when its rendered it takes the life out of the storm because of all the unused frames. Any body got any ideas on how to echo the luminance or smoething like that?

Thanks

The camera was static, right? Can you just pull out the frames that have lightening flashes and overlay them (at normal speed) over top of the sped up 'time-lapse'.

You might have a better outcome if you shoot with timelapse settings - 1 frame every 1 to 30+ seconds, shutter speed 1/2 second to 30 seconds... There won't be any need to speed up in post, you will capture beautiful lightening strikes and everything in the frame that is in motion will be beautifully blurred. DSLRs are great for this.

hmmm, thanks, yeah dslr would be ideal, but i shot it on a hmc 150 shutter 1/25th. i'll look at taking out the good bits and layering them up...
