How to take out colour without going black?

Hi. Just starting to use P pro 1.5 When I try to take out/reduce colour, I can take out R, B, G and such and the image starts to turn black. How do you remove colour (not entirely though as per the black and white option)? Must be missing something really simple! Thanks

..dont play with the RGB values at all to desaturate color.. just adjust the saturation. its under HSL (hue, saturation, lightness) :)
