How to sync multiple cameras?

Last weekend I shot an outdoor performance using 2 DVX100A's. Since I had read Barry's "DVX Book" ;D, I decided to give the "Free Run" recording method a try. I set both cameras' time-code generators to "Free Run" and set a "Preset" timecode of 00:00. Then using the remote, I exited the menus on both cameras, so they were in perfect sync throughout the day of shooting. Worked great!

Now my question: how to I "line up" this footage in Vegas, using the clips' internal timecodes to sync the tracks? There must be a way to have clips automatically go to a timecode on the video track based on their internal (camera-generated) timecode.... Is this question clear?

Sorry if this is a repeat -- I did a couple of brief searches for this topic within this Vegas forum, but didn't find anything...

Thanks!

Re: How to sync multiple cameras?

You can see the timecode on the event by turning on Preferences>Video>Show source thumbnails as:timecode.

If you are going to do multi-camera editing in Vegas, then definitly check out Excalibur (I am co-author). There is a free demo at www.VegasTrainingAndTools.com.

Re: How to sync multiple cameras?

Thanks very much for letting me in on that "secret" Gary! That'll give me a way to sync the 2 camera's video tracks based on timecode.

Excalibur looks really interesting! I just downloaded the demo from your website, and will try it as soon as I have some free time... Can it actually "automate" this synching process (based on "free-run" time-code)?
