How to sue an editor

Dude, I thought you sold your Avid and got a FCP suite?
I'll gladly sell my adrenaline suite to you today for 20 grand. I could then go spend half of that on a well suited FCP suite with more capabilities.
Folks with Avids don't sell them. They just gripe about being stuck with them.

I have no reason to doubt your word, but this person would have to be so unbelievably cheap that it's nothing short of monstrous. Are we talking about MiniDV tapes? The kind you can get for a few bucks at a convenience store? So the guy erased an entire feature film *he shot* and was hired to edit so he could get a handful of used penny-ante DV tapes? Are you *sure* you have this straight?

Sorry, but this sort of story, if it's really true, basically puts the guy's behavior in the realm of the psychotic, which is a little hard to reconcile with the fact that he'd developed the necessary technical, business, and personal skills to get himself hired in the first place...by both you and your already-warned friend.

Not that it'll make any real difference to me and my little world, but do you have solid proof that he did just what you're saying? Otherwise, as a tale, it sounds a bit tall to me.

Maybe I'm just naive...

If you would, please be so kind as to disabuse me of my skepticism.

I don't know what kind of proof you require, Ted. The guy told me himself that he'd erased the tapes and re-used them. The friend told me he'd done the same on their project. I agree, it makes no sense. But that's what happened. (Yes, they were Mini-DV tapes.)

Both of these people informed me of the incidents via email, but of course that was years ago and I doubt I still have the emails. Even if I did, copying and pasting the text here would hardly qualify as 'proof' -- I could just as easily fabricate them.

Why would I make up a story like that? I'm at a loss as to what would motivate such a fabrication. I don't identify the guy, so revenge or trashing someone's career isn't a plausible reason.

Was he psychotic? Yes, I think he probably was. And yet he's wrritten and directed two indie features that are currently in distribution and available in video stores, and at least two others on IMDB whose distribution status I don't know about. And he's worked with several well established horror movie icons, albeit B-listers at best -- maybe C. So go figure.

BTW, he's also known by at least one other person who posts regularly on DVXUser, though I'm not sure that person knows about these incidents.

Whether or not that soothes your skepticism is up to you. My point was -- always back up your tapes. Period.

Avid's are for sale everywhere in LA from productions that sell them off after they are done + all the ones that come off lease. Everywhere.

Sorry to tell you this but one of my Adrenalines cost me nothing and the other one I have no more than $6500 in it.

Too funny.. I was going to write a response fairly similar to yours about the complete absurdity of that situation.

You saved me 10 min. Almost as much as switching my insurance to Geico.

no.. nobody...?
