I feel silly asking this as I should know it. I can't find info on it anyplace.

Does anyone have information on how to OUTPUT a commercial in HD from Sony Vegas 8.0 that can then be submitted to Comcast Cable for airing?

What requirements do they have? How can get the commercial in HD from my time-line to an HD source TAPE/FILE that Comcast can then air?

I can't find a number for them anyplace either to get answers.

If anyone has info on this I would GREATLY appreciate it!

TAPE or FILE Formats

Anything else I might need to know.

You're going to have to find somebody at Comcast that will give you the tech specs. There aren't any universal standards. Only the broadcaster or cable provider can provide those details.

Actually what milksac said is exactly right. Just about every network I have ever come across can accept/ask for something different. You just need to contact them, simple.

What everyone else has said. You need to contact someone at Comcast. Try here for contact info:

I'm assuming what you're working on is for spot cable. Comcast has different requirements for different markets, so start looking for info based on the markets you're trying to air on. There's a chance HD isn't even available for broadcast.

What type of project is this?

I guess this is the wrong site to ask broadcast questions.
You're right.
Here's a forum better suited to answer your questions.

They will know what market you're in.
They will know will know what you mean when you say HD (720p or 1080i).
They will know if Comcast in your market accepts digital delivery.
They will know if Comcast in your market even accepts HD content.
They will know the phone number of Comcast in your market.

Now that I have that out of the way...

I read this almost daily on various forums. If it's not someone asking about broadcast delivery it's a newb motion designer asking about delivering an animation to a post house. To get an answer to their question they post in a public forum hoping for a quick an easy answer. Why? For concise answers the best approach is to contact the company that will be receiving your files. I think many of these kids are worried that they will look dumb or they feel embarrassed because they think they are asking a stupid question. What is embarrassing is sending over the wrong file type and having to do it over again because you didn't get it right the first time. This can easily end up costing the client money - a bad situation. Pick up the phone and call the broadcaster or post house and ask them for file specs. This is the professional way to handle the situation. I routinely send out files to the broadcasters as well as receive files from other parties. I don't hesitate to call the broadcaster to verify the file specs. And I don't mind if people call me asking for the file specs for our facility. Oftentimes they can e-mail you a PDF that outlines the accepted file formats.

Kids are funny. They don't even know enough to understand that they don't have to know it all. It's OK to pick up the phone or send an e-mail and ask a few questions.

Oh, yeah, that thing we use for texting and emails and mobile web and mobile Facebook and mobile Pandora and weather updates when I don't want to look out the window. It has more options or was that a typo, because he said "or"?

Nah, I was just messing with him. Because in this day and age of emails, texting, etc. a lot of people (especially the younger ones) don't realize what a simple phone call will get you, usually quickly too.
