How to Stream LIVE Audio & Video?

Kirk Gillock

Rebel with a cause
We have an upcoming charity event (Aug. 1st) that needs to have LIVE audio/video streamed over the Internet to potentially thousands of people over a span of two days. The actual stream will need to be embedded on a webpage. Hosting all the connections using our server here isn't possible since our Internet connection isn't that great (maybe 50-70kb/s upload).

So does anyone have any advice or experience with streaming live audio/video? Is there a free service available which would allow us to upload the stream to their servers and then they could host it for others to see? (wishful thinking)

Any help would be appreciated. :)

Its a shame that Mogulus now has ads, but i guess everyone has to make a buck somehow. Yahoo recently launched a similar service to Mogulus, but its ad free, and scales extremely well.

There is also UStream.tv but i think the yahoo service is much more polished.
Oh and http://www.justin.tv/ aswell.
Good luck with your event!

Thanks for the help, Anhar and MiniMan13. :)

Unfortunately free "with ads" isn't possible since the event will be sponsored and those can be the only ads we show.

I'll check out all of the links. Thanks again.

Not sure whether to go with Justin.tv or Ustream.tv. Been fiddling with Justin.tv the past few days. It seems to be pretty cool. Fortunately it won't put any stress on our servers because they host the streams, and they also allow you to embed the video into your own site (still won't put any stress on our site).

Will test Ustream.tv next. The DVXuser webcast looked good and that's what they used. :)

Well, leo laporte (www.twitlive.tv) recently did a 24 hour broadcast and had more than 5,000 people watching simultaniously using ustream, So it has the scalability you want.
