How to start renting your camera equipment?

I have a High Def HVX200 (NTSC 24p) camera and a decent amount of good quality gear. I'm not using it much and am looking to get some money back on it and was wondering how to go about renting the equipment legitimately.

I already have a registered company with ABN (Australian Business Number) and my insurance is up on Feb 20th. What particular things should I be after/looking out for in an insurance package?

Any other thoughts?

Ian

You can list it through a rental house. I know in this area a rental house that may have one camera but has a deal with a guy who has that model say a Sony 900 the rental goes through the rental house all you do is delv to them (rental house). So you may what to approach a rental house tell them you have a Pana 200 avail for rent and see if they will deal with you.

Another thing you might consider is when you start renting your gear repair bills may go up. of course insurance may cover it but to me it's not worth the hassle. Not everyone treats gear as if it were their own. I personally don't rent my gear for that reason. Unless it is too someone I know well.

You can always advertise on Craigslist in the TV/Video/Film section...I have seen people posting their HVX200's or Mini35 adapters for rent on there before.

Thanks guys. I have a mate that does media projects and he said sometimes he's asked if he rents eq, so he'll take a %. That might work, it's all a question of insurance I suppose now (if I can find something reasonable it might be a good way to go).

you can always just only rent the camera with an operator depending on your schedule...

that way you know what your cameras going through... god only knows what your camera could be used for if your not there to watch it ....

there some things that you just wouldn't want your camera used for .. and I am not talking about jumping of a cliff..... " Gee wonder what this sticky stuff is on my iris dial?" :Drogar-Shock(DBG):

after insuring the heck out of everything, just advertise. Most markets have a well-known production directory. Get in that and word of mouth will spread.
Seriously on the insurence. The easiest way to tear up gear is to rent it out.
