How to speed up a VO without tone change?

I've just received our VO for a 30 sec spot today and noticed that the vo artist took a little too long on some of the script.

I have a 12 sec VO that I need in 8 secs, is this possible or what are my options ?

I was told garageband might have something that could help....

Cutting out pauses is a good start.

If you want to literally speed up the voice without pitch change you could just try speeding it up then dropping the pitch, making no net change. Or not much, at least. Probably a little distortion to deal with, but it might be worth a try.

There are numerous plug-ins out there that shift time parameters while trying to preserve pitch. A great one that my DAW uses is elastique 2. I'll be honest: cutting down 33% of your VO time will probably sound weird even if the pitch is perfectly preserved. But, if you have some BG music, it might not be that bad. Anyhow, PM me if you'd like to chat more.

I used to have an app that came with a Creative Audigy card... and it handled this easily. Google and I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.

If this free program could speed up music without making it "sound" any different then I'm sure it could knock of that 4 seconds with ease.

I just recently used Adobe soundbooth and sped up a 22.5 sec VO. it was about 2.5 sec too long. it came out at 20 sec and there was little to no difference. I used change pitch and timing in the tasks menu. what kind of software do you have? if you dont have soundbooth you might see if there is a demo version that allows you to use it for a short time for this project.

You can use a free program called Audacity.

All you need to do is load your VO file, select it go to effects and change tempo and drag the slider until the required time length is displayed.

who's mistake was it? Was it an out of house supervisor? The vo guy?

I personally think speeding something up fast enough to shave 4 seconds off of 12 is
going to sound pretty unrealistic.

Or at least like that matchbox car commercial guy from way back when.
(hmm did i just date myself)

The time you take to fix it (and it still not sounding great) would be time better spent
re'doing the take for real if at all possible.

time machine in logic pro does this too....quicker than the talent can answer his phone...
in fact its quite common over here in order to squeeze as much text in as few seconds...

that's quite a bit of time the manipulate for a 12 second clip but you might try protools time compression expansion tool, I used to use this for radio shows I edited, but they were 25 minutes long and I usually only had to compensate about 45 seconds or so. No pitch change with this tool.
