i do not mean in the sports highlight sense... but in movies for example like "bend it like beck" where they took a couple of girls who had never played soccer and made them look like all stars...
that kind of stuff

Escape To Victory........They made Sly Stallone play like a star now that must be good considering there's no CG used.

I'd definitely check out SHAOLIN SOCCER by Stephen Chow (his KUNG FU HUSTLE is out now). It is by far the coolest soccer flick I have ever seen. Basically, it combines soccer with martial arts and amazing CGI for some really neato soccer sequences. You can view the trailer here...

You may also want to check out CITY OF GOD. The beginning has a cool soccer sequence which ends with the ball being kicked high into the sky and blown up with a shot from a gun. Oh yeah!

The girls in Bend it like Beckham did not look like stars! Anyone who plays or watches football is able to tell that they certainly dont look like naturals. By the way, that film was shot really near to where I live.

Back to the original question, you should look up 'When Saturday Comes' it is a 'real' football film - its about a guy who works in a mine who gets a chance to join his local team, Sheffield United.

It stars Sean Bean, who you americans may know as Boromir from LOTR. Sean Bean is actually a huge Sheffield United fan in real life, and the football scenes, while changed to be more dramatic etc, are much more realistic than those in Bend it like Beckham.

In Brazil, classical footbal games were shot by a newscast company called "canal 100", and were displayed along with news bulletins before the movies. That was before TV, but their coverage in BW 16mm has taught us some really beautyfull ways to shoot soccer. Keywords are teles, closed framings and slow motion.

Still, shooting guys that know what they are doing still is the best way to go.

i will be shooting pros... and members of national teams though be it from low low ranking fifa nations...
don't get me wrong i've played the game for over 15 years... and know my way around a pitch... thanks for the suggestions and keep them coming...
i'll definately do my best to find the shows.

any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated... and yes i was aware that the girls in B like B couldn't play the game but the ideas behind the shots were sound ...
i don't want to get into a pissing match over who's a star and who isn't ... its the technique and the angles and ideas i'm after.
thanks
