How to shoot/light for composite water splash/pour?

I had no idea that water is so hard to composite. I want water pouring out of a bucket against a white background. I don't have a large white background so I tried a guy pouring against a green screen and also against black velvet for a luminance key. Neither are friendly when trying to composite to a white background. I need a lot of light to have a high shutter speed to catch the drops. I put a good backlight behind the water as well as 1750 watts of side lighting to bring the shutter speed up.

Has anyone else attempted this sort of set up?

no but have been interested in trying to composite water myself. Seems almost impossible.

I read an article where a guy shot water drops with a solid background at high speed. He used the footage to make CG water look close to the same. He pretty much used the real footage to see how it moved and how light was reflecting off the drops to make the CG do the same.

There's a guy on this forum who did water pouring into a glass in front of a greenscreen using Andromeda (uncompressed HD port) from his DVX100a, and seemlessly put it against a still photo background. Not sure who, but he is active here and on the real-stream.com forums.

To do anything you can possibly imagine with water/liquids, look into "RealFlow", a 3D liquids software app.
