How to set up FCP to import/work with QT DNxHD (Avid) codec created on PC?

I need to hand off to my FCP editors about 1 TB of DVCPro HD .AVI files captured via DV Rack 2 HD (multicam concert footage @ 1080i/24PA via HVX200).

My plan is to convert files via Edius to QT .mov files and use the Avid DNxHD codec (220 - 10 bit).

Then the editor will use FCP on a MAC to edit these QT files.

I don't have a MAC to test this but my understanding is that the editor will simply have to
1. download and install the AVID DNxHD codecs (http://www.avid.com/onlineSupport/supportcontent.asp?browse=go&productID=0&contentID=10554)

2. import the QT files into FCP.

Does this sound right? Anyone have any experience doing this. I don't have a Mac to test at this time and time is money with the editors....

Thanks in advance.

I think you'll need to spend the money and test it out. There's really no shortcut for that. In theory anything can work. And just because other people have had success, doesn't mean you might not run into problems. You could always pay and assistant editor to do it and test it out if pure editor rates are just way too high. Could get the job correctly then and not be quite as costly.

In theory though it should work. If the computer(s) have the necessary codecs installed then they should be fine to interpret and access the footage. But again, if this is going to be your workflow then you need to do the test, one way or another, on the systems that are going to be used for the process.

cheers.
