How to see waveforms in X as in fcp7

Hi

Is there a way to configure clips so I can see the waveforms as one does in fcp7? All I can really see is volume, tho maybe the waveforms are the faint darker green. Inadequate for those who work intensely with audio.

Goto FCP X - pref
the first tab editing make sure the box " audio - show reference waveform" is ticked.
Also bottom RHS of screen there is a small button, it lets you set the track sizes, i.e. big audio track, audio/video 50/50 in size...

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I have that ticked and can change size, I just don't like the representation. I don't want to see solid mud with peaks, I want to see differentiation. To me, it's kinda amateurish, inferior to 7 and more difficult to work with.

Yes, it's agreed upon and well known that the audio side of X is very lacking, something I believe they were trying to address with updates this summer.

I wonder what the schedule on those is like currently..

As someone who came to video from recording studios, I find FCP X's audio to be infinity easier and more powerful than 7. Waveforms are MUCH easier to read for me, and much more accurate. And I do audio work with FCP X daily.

I find final cut x's audio tools to be massively underwhelming. I am hoping apple updates Soundtrack or comes up a new audio tool. The more time passes I am starting to doubt that it is coming. Anyone have any good alternatives?

What is specifically is underwhelming? There's always Logic Pro. Again, I come from recording studios to video, I do audio work in FCP X daily, and I've not had any issues with it at all.
