How to save an Effect as a Favorite?

One of my favorite shows on A&E is "The First 48". I love the editing on that show. They do this one effect in every episode where they do a sequence of split screen clips or small boxes of clips on the screen.

I DO know how to create the split screens and small boxes and know how to keyframe them to move about on the screen.

What I don't know is how to save everything as a favorite so I can use this effect for other projects with different video clips of course.
 
In FCP-a favorite can only be a filter or a transition. You could do something like this with a Motion template however.
