Hello group:

I am interested in buying a used alexa mini from someone in vancouever, unfortunately I am from Los Angeles and spending a small fortune on something i can physically test out makes me nervous but i know a lot of you have done it. So I have to ask how are you assured your money is safe when purchasing high ticket items from people that live a large distance away?

The most common way and probably your only option (and the safest one) would be making the sale through eBay WITH returns. Has you covered well even though nothing in life is a guarantee.

If you wanted to pay extra, you could maybe have a rental house facilitate the transaction. You'd find a place that offers the service and/or would be interested in being paid for their time. They inspect/test the camera - give you the green light - you pay seller - you pay rental house - rental house ships camera. (And you'd most likely sign off on rental house not being responsible for camera if it's lost in the mail.)

But nothing will truly help with those nerves as much as buying a plane ticket would.

Escrow and/or courier. It may come out to around the same price as you'd find one in LA after offsetting those additional costs.

Why not just fly and pick it up? Or meet in Seattle if you don’t want to deal with Canada/US stuff. I’d drive 5 hours to sell a mini!

You can try to use the plane ticket as leverage to get a better price overall.
