How to Rev. Telecine in Compressor

Hey guys, I need to reverse telecine my 29.97 footage to 23.98. I hear that Compressor does a better job of rev telecining edited footage than Cinema Tools.

How can you do this in Compressor?

Thanks!

Did you telecine the footage to edit it in 29.97? If not, how would you reverse telecine it?

Are you really talking about a standards conversion of 30 frame to 24?

If you really want to reverse your telecine processed video then you need to use Cinema Tools. If you want to change the frame rate then yes... compressor or nattress standards converter or shake...

None of them will look any good.

It would help us too (and the ladies here as well) to know what standard of video you actually edited and WHY OH WHY you want it to now be 23.98.

Well, the project was shot in 24p normal. The 24p normal project was captured in FCP in 29.97. However, there are interlacing artifacts such as line twitter that I want to clean up. I want to create a true 24p dvd. So, I need to convert the edited 29.97 project to 23.98.

Ok...

Well -- you should have thought of that pre edit.

24p Normal is to get a film look. This film look is exactly the same thing that is done to film as it is being presented for broadcast.

There isn't any interlacing it is combining and they aren't artifacts, they are what you asked for.

I know you want to get rid of them... ok...

Go back and send the clips to Cinema Tools and reverse telecine them there. NOT in compressor.

Then, you'll need to re-edit it.

Ok? Not the answer you wanted I'll bet.

- Don't feel bad man. I've had the same problem with an old project I've been working on.

No more 24P "normal" for me.

you can use compressor. it will auto-detect the cadence and properly convert 29.97 to 23.98, even across multiple takes in a single clip by doubling up single fields on the first frame.

i shoot b-roll behind the scenes footage with an HV20 and use this method to convert it all. simply turn on "frame controls" and set the de-interlace drop-down to "reverse telecine". this can be done in combination with transcoding to another codec if needed.

I tried this process w/a sequence and it didn't work.

I still see interlacing. I can deinterlace individual clips but not an entire (i.e. already edited) sequence.

Am I doing something wrong?

i've only sent clips to it for reverse telecine. try exporting it first and sending that to compressor. also i'm using the latest version, compressor wasn't always able to do this.
