How to report the news...

Some British dude hilariously breaks down every news story you've ever seen into its rudimentary parts--

The template is a template is a template. But seriously, why those reporters feel that they NEED to be on the screen and that they HAVE TO walk towards the camera?

"I do not listen, this is just news" -- hilarious.

From the comments: "Next do British documentaries: Instead of the Art, Nature or Science beeing the topic, usually some reporter guy beeing amazed by the Art/Nature/Science is the main topic. He takes most of the space of the screen, and spends about 50% of the show repeating the same questions and expressions of amazement, 30% of the show explaining pointless visualizations and hopefully the remaining 20% of the show with actual information." -- just watched "Michael Palin's New Europe", "Russia - A Journey With Jonathan Dimbleby" and several episodes from "The private life of a masterpiece" series. So true, though "The private life of a masterpiece" is better because they have to show stuff they are talking about.

EDIT: Does it look like it has been shot with a VDSLR?

What I've always found funny was how studies show that people will tune in when they see "LIVE" on the screen... So, when I did ENG we'd always go live even if there is nothing to see but the talent (reporter). You'll see some fool standing outside a dark courthouse in the freezing cold reporting about what happened 8 hours earlier! Uh.. there's nothing to see NOW! It's freakin' DARK!
Gotta have that live shot tho to get the folks to stop on that channel.

I'm going to do the anatomy of a repost...

First... a clever idea is stumbled upon and posted... usually by a lesser known member meaning to show his/her worth by discovering a video production treat to share (and hopefully impress longer-standing members with his taste, and appreciation for video related wit.) This thread gets few views and replies because of it's inherent "newbie" characteristics.

Next... a more prominent member (who has more going on in his/her life and therefore has less time to stuble across such gems... er... stumbles across this gem... and... wanting to show the longer-standing members that he/she is still relevant and interesting) posts this same link, picture, or video... in order to further solidify his/her standing in the community. Normally, this second thread quickly gets buried onto page 2 because of the lack of replies because the ones who viewed the first thread don't want to simply reply... "repost".

Finally... a really well-known and respected member stumbles across the same link... or was emailed the link from one of the other groups, and not realizing the source of the secondary or tertiary origins... decides to post this clever link to reaffirm his/her continual, upstanding and outstanding contributions to the forum.

It's generally... at this point... that the thread and video goes "viral" within the DVXuser community... as we all see the endorsement of this link through a well-known member... this can also sometimes happen quicker when we see the first few replies by any of those same, well-known members.

Then... in the final stage... some member who breaks the thread's happy momentum through over-analysis... distills the fun out of the whole discussion and the thread dies.

Brilliant!

Charlie Brooker is officially my favorite celebrity (at the moment)... I've been working through his screenwipe, gameswipe, newswipe ever since this post.

That guy is perfect for right now. I've been wanting to do a web series like this... just spewing an anti-bullsh*t rant about all the bullsh*t on tv, advertising, etc. and that's exactly what he does... and he's totally entertaining at it.

Freakin' genius.

Hi Matt,

I’m glad you’ve come to know and love Brooker’s TV work. That’s really all I was hoping for in the first place – to introduce the work of a great writer/broadcaster/satirist to people outside of the UK.

The reason why I dropped in to comment on the repost-threads was not to show-off the fact that I had posted the clip earlier, but rather to point out that this wasn’t just ‘some British dude’, and to encourage those who enjoyed it to seek out some of his other work.

Which you did: I’m glad – that’s great!

I’m just not really sure what line of reasoning led you to conclude that someone with a lower post-count, or later registration date than (an)other member(s) means that they are (a) desperately clamouring for kudos, and (b) have nothing better to do with their time than trawl the net for funny videos.

Couldn’t it just be that I happen to live in Britain, and therefore saw the show when it was first broadcast (on Tuesday) before others had a chance, and posted it here the following day (Wednesday, once somebody had uploaded to YouTube), and just wanted to share the laughs?

I can’t really say I’m offended (I’m not sure I really understand what that word even means these days – if anything – or why it should even matter), but I’m also not a huge fan of irrational strawman accusations that present me as some kind of desperate loser.

No hard feelings – but I would suggest that you think for a second about the – let’s face it – rather insulting presumptions you (publicly) made about me, whether you think there was any evidence to support them, and whether you think you would have enjoyed Brooker’s other work this weekend, had I not dropped in to point out that he wasn’t just ‘some dude’– the very thing, it seems, for which I have been mocked!

Anyway, like I said: no real offence taken – just a bit of a WTF feeling…

*laughing*

Oh man... you totally missed my attempt to pay homage to Charlie throughout my first reply post! The guy that replied after me saying "buzzkill" is why I changed my sig...

I like dry comedy... hence I like almost ALL british humor! I can't believe I missed out on Charlie Brooker for this long... but anyway... re-read my post in a fast, summary-type rant... as if it were being spoken by Charlie... now do you get it? The last line of that post is my attempt at a clever self-depricating, self-fulfilling zinger.

That post wasn't aimed at you at all... you were just coincidentally part of the setup for me to make a weak attempt to be Charlie-like.

And the irony is: it’s always us lot accusing you guys of having no sense of irony…

Sorry about that...
