How to rent a camera?

I've been wondering on how to rent my gear out to others.
How does it work?

I don't own a business or anything, I just own some gear that I am willing to rent out to make some extra money.
I have been thinking of doing this with a DSLR and when I can afford, the Red Scarlet.

What would I need to do?

Get insurance. No point in renting out your gear if it comes back broken. Keep in mind, no insurance company will insure against theft through rental (they'll cover it if it's stolen out of your car, but not if you rent it to someone and they take off). Get a copy of a driver's license or some sort of ID to keep on file.

Most people don't rent DSLRs anymore, though it really depends on which one you have. If it's a higher end one or a complete kit, you might get lucky. Be careful about purchasing a Scarlet (or any camera) for rental at this point. The industry is fairly saturated and there are lots of places to rent great cameras for super cheap rates (rates that would take you forever to make back your investment on).

Good luck,

Kegan

It's not the way I want to make money by just renting, its just an additional thing that I thought could help.

If I get insurance, and if its stolen on rental, they wont cover it?
