How to render clip from Vegas to AE6.5?

I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Vegas says video is 23.97fps. But when I render out, AE says it's 29.97. When I put it on the timeline it looks like crap. Footages blurs and has jagged (interlacing looking) lines. I don't think resolution is there either. It's that way on the timeline and render que. I change preview window to best, put best setting on render.... yuk!

I try to use the "interpret footage" and let it guess 2:3 pulldown or just change the settings to 24p... it looks even worse.

1) Can someone give me a workflow to exporting video from Vegas 6 to AE. 6.5 when the footage is shot on F5 or F6 (24fps)?

2)Is there a way to export WITHOUT adding pulldown? Should I be using a 29.97 timeline.

Thanks in advance...

Sounds like you are working with the wrong composition settings in AE. If you are using a default DV template which is 29.97, then you are gonna have troubles. I dont think there even IS a preset in AE with a frame rate of 23.97fps.

1. Create a new composition, choosing the standard DV settings.

2. BEFORE you hit ok, manually enter the frame rate you want.

3. Drag your footage in and do whatever you want. (You may want to make sure it's being interpreted correctly, and if not, set that up.

4. Create your movie, checking that all the info for export is correct. Make sure you output with no compression (something you should have done from Vegas too.)

I dont know if Vegas is rending fields with the way you are exporting it, but if it is, AE will render 24p, unless you change it back to render fields in the output settings. AE deinterlaces for you. when I bring standard DV into AE and render it out, the file becomes 30p.
