How to recreate Casino Royale Title Sequence?

I'd like to no how to go about re-creating the FX used in the title sequence for James Bond: Casino Royale.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nfc9GLxlhEw&feature=related (the sequence from 1 minute in mainly)

Does anyone know how to do this or have a couple of tutorials i can work from? I have AE and Premiere but i have access to other software if needed.

How long would a process like this take to add to a film? (around 5 minutes in running length)

What limitations would i have making a film in this style?

I think it's a blend of a lot of things, I was blown away the first time I saw it. I'd say they have a bit of rotoscoping or motion capture and then a lot of just regular 2D and 3D animation. It seems like it would really take a lot of work to create that amount of complex animation. Not sure of what programs they used, it'd be sweet if you could recreate that effect.

I had hoped it was an effect they added over existing footage (maybe shot against green screen). I mean its got to be similar to the Ipod effect..

Except that the figures are all geometric, something just a simple green screen capture would not achieve.

And not only that, when they "Burst" they do so into card shaped particles.

This shot was most likely put together using motion capture software, then applied to farily low polygon models for animation. Put a little soft body dynamics on the clothing, and when it is time for them to shatter, replace with a new precut mesh, and apply your explosion dynamics with some gravity.

That is by far the easiest way to do it. But, since you probably dont have access to motion control a setup or software, and probably don't know dynamics and 3D, there is another route you can take, but your talent is not going to be happy with you.

In that clip, the person's skin was usually the same color as their clothing, with only the white shirts acting as the negative space. You can greenscreen it, by having your talent wear black shoes, socks, pants, tie, and jacket, and then using theater paint, paint their faces black/multitone as well. If their hair isn't black or whatever color it needs to be, get some wash out temp dye. Key your footage.

You can use Particle Illusion for the "breaking apart" using diamond shaped custom particles and following this tutorial:

That's about the only non 3D way I can think of doing it, allowing for realistic movement.
