I tried searching but there were way too many random topics...
anyway, I need to record an earth zoom with Google Earth but I don't know what program to use. Anyone know a free program that does a good job with this?

Free...thats a little tougher...video your screen? Quicktime broadcaster is free and will record your web cam, but I don't think it does screen shots. I have used SnapzPro and it works well. Free trial offers alot and may work for just a quickie.

meinsoftware has a cheaper version.

To tell you the truth I've never actually used it, only heard of it being used for capturing video off of your screen, so it was the first one that popped into my head. I'd imagine that it would be .avi, just because of how common the format is. But I could be wrong. Check out the Adobe site, I'm sure they have a FAQ or something on there that will tell you which format it uses. Good luck.

i think you can only publish to flash swf's

maan...well i'm just gonna do it the ghetto way...video camera pointed at screen. haha

s-video

s-video

If you have the outputs/inputs, you can run an s-video cable out of the computer and into a camera.
Not many desktop video cards have s-video out, but lots of laptops do.

Free? No...but you could probably find a cheap D-Sub converter box on eBay. I got one for $6 that outputs to S-Video.

If you're using Google Earth on GNU/Linux (or have access to a machine with it), you could use recordMyDesktop. It works quite well.

I'm not sure what you plan on recording Google Earth for, but keep in mind that their EULA is quite restrictive as to how you can use the content.
