Just wondering how most people make record their audio in a way that doesn't sound like they were standing in front of a mic. I see a lot of great short films with superb audio... but as good as it is, all I can picture when I hear most dialog is a mic hanging right over their heads recording it. Is there something that needs to be done in post to decrease the general "punch" that most dialog seems to have, give it a bit of "airiness"? Basically I feel that the majority of audio even on pretty expensive mikes has a very impactful feel, it's just a bit unnatural. Even on videos where people are highly praised for the amazing audio job... it just simply lacks the type of sound you generally hear from most films. Is this only due to the actual mic chosen, or is there some magic in post that flattens out the audio a bit? I'm very new to recording audio, and am just trying to learn as much as I can : )
