How to protect my dvd before I send it out.

I recently shot a film and had about 50 extras. I need to send them all a copy of the film.

My dilema is, I do not want my film to end up on youtube or something because someone can just explore the VIDEO_TS folder and drag and drop it onto thier desktop.

If they end up copying the disc...that is fine, I guess, but I do not want them to have easy access to the film, where then can mess with it digitally.

Currently I have DVD Architect 3.0. Is there a program I can get to make the disc copy protected or just protected in general? Thanks for your help guys.

You could always ASK them not to make copies or upload it... or put a crawling "screener blah blah blah" and usually the more people that get to see it the better...

The protection mechanism for DVDs is CSS and requires a 2054 byte block. Recordable media will only support 2048 byes blocks so you can't apply the key.

The normal method is a visible watermark stating that the contents are a screener copy and are not for public display, distribution to a third party. Include a statement that clearly specifies retention of all rights to the screener.

I was just at AFM last week and the screeners there that I picked up were duplicated and without CSS protection in many cases, so if its good enough for big budget films, it should be good enough for yours too.

If you can "see" it, you can "copy" it. Unless you have it replicated with macrovision/css encryption on it, there's not much else more you can do. But even that can be bypassed easily.

Best bet is to ask them not to do anything to alter the footage or digitize and make them sign a "If you put this on the net or take out any part of it, you are going to get ****ed" form. Before you send it out to them.
