How to pronounce Rifa

aw grasshopper

Well-known member
I have tried to find out how to pronounce 'Rifa'. Since I have this light, it would be helpful in knowing the correct pronunciation. Can anyone help me out?

Thank you in advance for taking the time to look at this post.

How do you pronounce "Aaton"? :)

I've heard it both ways -

"ah-TAWN"
and
"AYE-tawn"

Seeing as the company is based in France (i think) - I would lean towards "ah-TAWN"

(I've got nothing funny for that one... hoping to ride the kennedy reefer wave for another few posts)

Oh man Luis,
That's twice in one day you killed me! First "Pookie-on-Hudson" and now pothead Kennedys?!?! Hahaha. I got one....Luis Caffesse.

Loo-ee Cafeese? Like Geese?
OR
Loo-is Caffesse? Like confess?

Well, that all depends on who you are - I answer to both "Lou - ees" and "Lou- iss"
All started when I worked at a radio station and they put me on the air - apparently "Lou-ees" was a bit too 'ethnic' for the program director. My name is Luis Esteban Caffesse... he asked me to go by "Louis Stevens" on the air.

I sounded like the whitest white man on earth.
If you guys really want to laugh...i should dig up some old tapes of that.
I've never felt dirtier than I did talking up a Rod Stewart song...ugh.

Seriously though - here's one for you - I've heard this pronounced all sorts of ways:

Chimera

Any takers?

I'll be the first to call for those tapes publicly. There's gotta be some good comedy there.

Shi-Meh-Ra.

oh and I'd go with Mayfer's for BCheongs.

I've always heard it said "Ree-fuh"

(like a Kennedy asking for weed)
:)

Very funny. And I agree.

Chimera?

I've heard the word as Blaine says it...Kai • mare • uh.

But a lot of my US friends also say it...Cha - mir - ah.

Either one sounds fine to me, I know what they're talking about. Also keeping in mind I deal with people trying to say these words with a rather strong Spanish accent.

I'm not even going to try and figure out how to phonetically write those versions!
