How To Preview Effects

Hey guys... I'm new to After Effects and have been looking to see if there is a way to preview what all the effects do? Am I able to somehow see preview animations of what all the effects in after effects do before I apply them to a comp? Thanks for any help.

No, once you have used after effects for a while and have tried out all the effects you just know what they are for. Maybe try getting ahold of an after effects book or instruction dvd that goes through the standard effects one by one. You might find something like that in the creative cow basics forum or tutorial podcasts.

Not true. Go to "HELP" on the top, then "AFTER EFFECTS HELP" then a window will pop up. If you want you CAN view some of the effects/transitions/animation presets. In the search bar of the window, just type "animation preset" then go to whichever preview you want. Your welcome!

If you want to know what a effect does, type it in the help search box, and usually description of the effect is available. But there are so many different things effects can be indirectly used for (especially fractal noise) that the best thing to do is watch/read some tutorials.

Adobe Bridge

Adobe Bridge

If you use AE 7.0 you can privew the effects using bridge. Go to AE effects windows click little arrow on top right then click browse. You will be able to see all the presets.
