How to Pack my 1600?

Hey, my Pelican 1600 just arrived. I think I have a plan for how most stuff will go in it. Obviously, the camera has to go first, and suddenly I was stumped. RIght now, I have an AT-897 attached to it with the skimpy plastic 1 piece shotgun microphone mount that comes with the DVX. But I can't figure out what I want to do. Obviously the DVX goes near and parallel to the hinge, for best weight distribution and access. But then it got tricky.

How do you guys orient it axially? Handle up, or towards you, or away from you? (surely not down...)

Do you take off the microphone every the time, or do you leave it attached for quick access?

If you take the microhone off, that microphone holder seems pretty fragile, and like it would break in the case. What do you do about that?

FWIW, here is my planned 1600 production kit. I still need to buy a couple of items and not everything may go in there. Lots of things will get oriented vertically, to maximize volume usage.

DVX100a with charger/ac adapter
3-4 DVX batteries
1 CCD consumer cam, with extra batteries (to be replaced by gs-400)
** 1.6 telephoto adapter
RCA cables & svideo cable for external monitor (???)
AT-897 shotgun mic
** AT-825 Stereo mic (??)
iRiver 799
3 Lav mics (**2 XLR & 1 iRiver)
** 1 UHF wireless lav mic with handheld. Senn G2-100P variant likely
mic cables/adapters for both cameras and iRiver
soundboard adapter (1/4M to 1/8M) for iRiver
*** Etymotics headphones (possibly other also)
cleaner tape
15 blank tapes
AA charger & 6 AA nicad batteries (for iriver and 2 AT mics)
xtra lav mic batteries if needed
xtra batts for UHF system
** Filters (Polarizing, etc)
** small on-cam light (I own Bescor 50 watt, but can't stand the thought of the extra 6 pounds all the time)
Foldable reflector disc
gaffer or painters tape
Still camera
lens cleaning kit,
manuals,
clothespins
small flashlight

I probably should leave room for a mattebox and 4x4 filters. We shall see.
*** means I do not own it yet.

But first I have to figure out which way the DVX goes in for maximum safety. Any ideas welcome.

Whatever you do...don't store the camera in the case upside down.....

just an old joke...........

You're not really planning on trying to get all of that in the 1600 are you?

I just ordered a 1550, so it'll be interesting to see what people say about how to orient the DVX in the case. I also plan on putting in my AT897 and various accessories.

HAHAHAHHAHA

There's no way in hell you'll get that all safely in a 1600.

I keep mine handle up.
