How to pack a DVX into hard case?

Also concerned with theft, and because I do a lot of international travel with video gear, I created my own carry-on DVX bag from a piece of carry-on luggage packed with foam.

The bag is made with thick cordura, with an armored bottom. Pockets on the outside and inside help stow cables and tapes and such. I pack the inside with 6cm foam all around and top and bottom. I was going to armor the sides as well, but I think that would be overkill.

Looks great and professional, very light, cost $30 and is a lot more convenient on the set than a hard-case. Plus, it fits perfectly into my way-to-big-and-heavy Pelican if needed. Easily fits under the seat or in the overhead compartment. When travelling by car I can keep it on my lap in case I need quick access to the camera.

Sorry Galt, I wish I didn't take so long to post now... :embarasse

Dangg, 20 minutes....

It's okay, I think I like it upside down... :) I do have a problem though, I need more stuff to fill up the case. As soon as I book one more project I am going to buy those Senn100ENG mics. How long am I supposed to work before actually taking a paycheck?

1 Year Minimum

Naah! Most of my working customers paid for their DVX's in 3 shoots, and in under 2 weeks were making profit.

Hey Galt - not bad. Seems like a bit of wasted space on the bottom left side (of the photograph) around the batteries. Why did you choose to put one battery in horizontal and the DVX battery in vertical? Also seems like a lot of padding around the tapes.....

Lower left space reserved for the rebate 5000mah battery whenever Panasonic sends it to me.

Big battery is essentially square and can go in either way using same space. I tend to put it in as shown, seems like it will be less likely to shred foam or pick up foam lint in contacts.

Most everything has two cubes of padding. Once I cut (pluck) the third battery in, tapes will be the same two cubes thickness around them. One cube thick just will not stay put, and two is pushing it a bit. Also, that tape hole goes thru both layers of foam, so it needs the double cube thickness to maintain its shape.
