How to output WMV file

My client needs a Windows Media file of a short video.

How can I create this from my final cut project? Is there a free program that will do a conversion?

Thanks

No -- but here are some that you might have...

Flip4Mac... Pro version does it and isn't very expensive
Cleaner -- $600us, but you might have it?
After Effects -- it has a WMV export engine... happen to have that?

Flip4Mac is the best codec out, and does WMV 9 HD. Cleaner and AE do good jobs, but I always seem to prefer the results with F4M. But that's just me...

Not to bash F4M, nice people behind it, but I had nothing but problems with it. Very unreliable in terms of playability of WMV files for PC users. Almost lost a client because of it.

I now have a PC laptop (along with my G5) and I use something called AVS Video Tools that's rock solid.

Read the F4M support board to see if problems persist. I haven't revisited it for about a year.

This is so lame. WMV is not my favorite, but Windows Media Player is one of the most ubiquitous players out there. How does a $1k software package not encode the most basic video file format out of the box??? "Final Cut Studio, your all-in-one solution in the new era of post-production." Such a crock of poo poo.

I need to deliver a WMV too. Vegas does QT and WMV right out of the box.

Talk to Microsoft, they're the ones who won't license it out affordably. And when they do, it's not with the full codec library. Never has been.

And if you hate FCP so much, why are you on this forum? Vegas has it's short comings, too. How many motion pictures have been produced with Vegas? Oh, none, it doesn't have support for film work, I forgot.

Now, if you want to have an adult discussion about FCP and the Mac platform, fine. But don't start with the childish slander, not here. Do that with your little buddies on the playground.

Dude, relax. Don't take it personal. IMO, you're the one that sounds like a 12 year old.

If the licensing is so expensive, how does Flip4Mac offer three tools for under a hundred bucks?

It seems to me that if FCP wanted to make the studio an "all-in-one" solution, it would support a codec that 90% of the world can use for playback.

I put in a FCP suite at work because they already had a powerbook when I started. In retrospect, Vegas would have been a better fit for the videography I do here.

PS - my dad could kick your dad's ass.
