How can I open MP4 files in Sony Vegas (I use Pro 10) without having to convert the video? Every time I try to open an MP4 file I get this error message:

"An error occured while opening one or more files. The reason for the error could not be determined"

If you have the latest Pro 10 update, MP4 files should work. That is, if their video is h.264, and audio is AAC. Use VLC to determine the exact format.

I know this is a stupid question, but where do I download Sony Vegas Pro 10 updates? I'm having trouble finding updates on their website. When I go to the Sony Vegas "update" in this link:

It just dirrects me to a link to download Sony Vegas Pro 10.

I have the answer!
I had exactly the same problem until it came up with this message:
" Sony Vegas Pro 10 canot decect Quicktime Plugin. Please Install the latest Quicktime player."
I did it and accosiated all avi's and mp4's with it and now it works with everything except flv's, for some reason.

Vegas Pro 10 also does not use Quicktime to decode MP4s anymore. It uses the comoundplug.dll, not the QTplug.dll as it did in previous versions.

Vegas Pro 10c detects them, but it still doesn't get along with them very well. I pulled a few small MP4 files off of a DVD a few weeks back, and they were either very sluggish loading onto my time line or they were so unstable that I had to reboot several times before they were read and loaded as an acceptable format. There were even a few momentary dropouts on the rendered mpeg2 file. I suspect Vegas Pro 10 will continue to improve on MP4 compatibility via updates.
