Bullseye.

There you have it, you won't be able to reinstall a OS either because your USB Flash Drive won't seem to boot any afterwards. So don't worry about that.

Any questions, feel free to ask..

Strange. We (my brother and I) just moved an MSI wind over to leopard, dual boots seamlessly. Everything works like a charm.

Sucks man. Sorry to hear that.

Nah I'm pretty sure you can boot it, take a look into the BIOS. some even support Net Installing.

I've revived a dead IBM thinkpad that was badly installed with a USB.

If its XP, then take a look at the boot.ini file and make sure the right disks/ partitions are configured correctly, you could probably use a live Linux USB to read and edit the file or maybe a MS DOS boot disk (for USBs, BARTS PE?)

If worst comes to worst, rip out the hard drive, slap it into a caddy and install the OS that way,

Well it start's up as norma. I select 'F12' to boot from a certain area..

I get the following choices:

1. IDE 0: ST-------AS
2. USB HDD: SanDisk Cruzer
3. Network Boot: LEGACY PCI DEVICE
4. USB CDROM: SanDisk Cruzer

Well option 4 (Netbook hasn't even got a CD Rom Drive) & it continues.. to the below error mesage:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing
or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

However.

If I scroll down to option '2.' Hit Enter..

I get the following message:

Remove disks or other media.
Press any key to restart
_

If i hit the 'any key', it goes back to the original error message..

Windows could not start because the following file is missing
or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

--- edit:

Just took a look at this guys website, http://www.aspireoneguide.com/windows7guide.html

Never thought I'd be glad to see the words 'Microsoft Corporation' again. Installing Windows 7 now. :)

from the above steps, I'm now certain you can still boot from USB, just stick in a LiveUSB Unbuntu OS and then try and copy and paste the hal.DLL file.

If not just nuke the OS again with a fresh copy.
