I was wondering how would you acomplish this does anyone have a thoughts on how to do this. i want to make a film with this happing and im not going to make the person be actually on fire so how would i do this?

well the way i have would be like this. heres my story board drawing cover.
thefuryprint.jpg
so tell me what i should if i wanted to track it i was thinking of one way but it might be harder like bluescreening with prop arms and spary them same color and then light them then motion track but it might be harder and dangerous... suggestions?

Obtain/shoot footage of flames against black.
Overlay flame footage in editing or effects software.
Experiment with opacity and try screen mode.
Create soft mattes for person.
Motion track person if they're moving.

Make fake sections of 'arms' out of black. (cloth over pipe?) Put these on a rod or rig in someway that you can move them in some manner to mimic the actor (roughly) without causing danger to yourself. Effects professional is always recommended when working with fire or other dangerous process.
To keep things simple you could shoot footage from different angles. (rotate rig or move camera between setups) Dissolve between different angles selected to match angle of arms.
This can be surprisingly good when done correctly.
You can create an a matte from the lima and soften this to create a glow on the arms. (Use levels to control brightness)
To help tracking place some white dots on the sleeves of the actor. Ideally 2 would be visible to allow rotation in motion tracking.
Do some simple tests first.

A bottle of rubbing alcohol, a lighter and a crazy friend who's willing to participate (that's how we did it anyway).

lol. but please note i said digital lol.

I'm not an FX guy, however, I know that there are companies that sell stock animation elements, including fire effects that come on CD-rom/DVD-roms and can be used with most SFX or compositing apps. I remember looking at a catolog full of these things, I just can't rememeber the name of the outfit selling them, (it's past my beer time)

If anyone knows how to get these, please post a link.

Artbeats is the way to go. If the person is remaining more or less steady then just use their footage + motion tracking. If there is a lot of action going on I'd probably try using particles (whiever plugin you have/like; I personally love Particular) with stock footage as displacement map. That way you have control over fire motion, although it's harder to achieve believable effect.

Fake fire always looks like fake fire. You can always tell when fire is cgi or real. Sometimes it is easier and cheaper to do the real deal. We did a burn on the one of the lead actors for Reno 911 a couple of weeks ago. Preparation is everything. If you know how to do it, it is "relatively" safe.

My opinion: even the real fires look fake. Most, if not all, of the burns I've seen...they linger too long on the stunt person/actor...long enough to see they're wearing a firesuit.

Spidey, whats that frame grab from?

I remember awhile back I did this same effect but using real stock footage flames and ash dabres and track it onto the actors head. The effect worked and looked real only because he wasn't moving much. The tracking and composites were fairly simple to do. One of the best ways to get it to look real is to have pictures and video refrence. I wish I had the footage but the master in on SVHS and I have no idea where that dam tape is. Dang, SVHS, I thought that was the format of choice back in the days.

Bluespider, was that the one that was up here a few months ago? If it was, it was about the best that I had seen.

Not all burns have to be done with firesuits on, we have done them bareskin. One Halloween, everytime kids came to the door, I would light my finger on fire and point to the m & m's in a coffin lid and tell them they would melt in their mouth and not in their hands.

I don't think that was me. I haven't put anything up on this site since last year..
