How to make SD footage look HD / FILM

I was told that you can put your footage into AF and it can look some what like HD.

I just shot a pro D1 drift event this weekend with a XL2, I'm shooting 4-3, 30p.

I'm trying to get the HD look, I understand garbage in garbage out but is their any way I can simulate a HD look or is this rumor I hear false. I know I can do 720p to 1080p, how can I go SD to looking better then SD.

SD is SD ,,, probably best to get an M2 or Lettuce with a really good 35mm lens then crop it in post for fake HD look and nice lens quality with DOF to boot.

good luck

I've not tried this recently, but a while back I experiemented with using a combo of uprezing SD and cropping to HD aspect ratio and resolution, then using a 'film grain' filter to randomize the resulting jaggies of the uprez process.

It's not something you'd do with a corporate video... unless the corporation was looking for something 'edgy'...

you can't. Other than color correcting and giving it some type of style nothing you do will bring more detail or color information than what was already shot. Also shooting in 4:3 means you'll have to crop the shot. You were probably mistaken when the person told you it can somewhat look hd in AE. Yes, you can size the footage up to 720 or 1080...but you can't get the quality of an HD camera with an SD image. The information just isn't there.
