How to Make Red Matte Background in FCP

I want to make a red background for my text (credits) in FCP, but I'm not sure how to do this because when I make a slug it's black and I see no way to add color.

Also, does anyone know how to use different font sizes of the text? For example say I want the actors name is be 12 font and his characters name to be 10 font.

Thanks in advance!

In the same drop-down menu where you found the TEXT option, there should be one called MATTE.

I'm not sure about the red bg though. In my experience, it's a bit harsh on the eyes, and makes the jaggies around the text stand out more, especially if finishing on dvd and viewed on an hdtv.

IDK how to make the text different sizes, but you could always try stacking text tracks. You could also use LiveType, if you wanna learn it.

I believe you have to stack text tracks for variations in color, font or size. If you change something, it changes everything in that text clip.

You could also do your credits in motion or photoshop, which gives you a lot more options.

If you use the Boris 3D title tool that comes w/FCP it will allow you to create text of different size, color, etc., in the same clip.
