How to import from DVD using DVD drive in Laptop?

I got a DVD that someone burned some footage onto a DVD-R disc for me to import in FCP so I can finish the project I am working on. The DVD-R disc will not play in any of my DVD players here at home however it WILL play in my laptop's dvd drive. I don't know how else to get the footage. Any suggestions?? Project needs to be done by Friday morning!

Is it saved a s a file on the DVD, or is it a playable DVD?

Since it won't play in multiple DVD players, but it will play on your laptop, I'm guessing it's a file, which you should be able to drag to your HDD, then import.

If it isn't playing in those other players because of a compatibility issue, but it's a playable DVD then you need to drag the files to your HDD and convert the TS files to DV or .mov with something like streamclip.
